Depth, layer, texture, nuance, pattern, and foremost text–this is what always moves me.
I’ve have a love affair with words and have been collecting them for a decade from a daily email from dictionary.com. These rarely used, obscure words give such richness and seem magic. In both my curatorial practice and my own work, the focus has been on activist, social justice art on current polarizing, hard-hitting issues. This series for 4Squared and more in progress, focus on the inherent beauty and positivity that can surround us, if we let it. Glimmers of hope in hard times.
This series was a time-intensive, labor of love. The original 48×48”, epoxy resin coated base painting was cut into squares and glued to cradle board. I poured about 20 quarts of paint Pollock style, one at a time, let it dry, sanded it and poured more. It then got two more layers of resin to suspend the colored vellum transparency paper and the text. In addition to the ethereal, dreamy words, I also included stanzas from my favorite songs and a poem. This could be the ultimate playlist that describes my faith, hope, dreams and wishes. I hope they will resonate with others too—a visual reminder about mindfulness and intention for love.
All works are 10 x 10 x 2 inches.
