Agency: Feminist Art and Power

The Museum of Sonoma County (MSC) presents Agency: Feminist Art and Power opening on September 11, 2021 to February 21, 2022

In this turbulent time of political changes, global conflicts, social, racial, gender, and economic inequality, artists demand agency for women to think, act, speak, decide, control, and to command power and change. Agency: Feminist Art and Power will present work from women artists representing diverse cultural backgrounds, generations, gender identities, and geographic perspectives, who explore themes such as gender equality, economic independence, freedom of expression, reproductive rights, changing gender roles, marriage, motherhood, identity, violence against women, activism, and empowerment. WAVES focuses on a vision for a positive, empowered future for women and girls, and their families. It is underpinned by the feminist principle that believes in political, economic and social parity for all.

The artwork in Agency ranges from literal to poetic, abstract to representational, social and political commentary, including more abstract ideals and universal themes of self, exploration of belief systems, universal responsibility, self-discovery, social or political transformation and the search for beauty, and transcendence. WAVES reflects personal as well as observed stories—myth, fact or fiction. These feminist artists challenge social, cultural, and political norms related to women as individuals and as global citizens. Confirmed artist list to announced soon!
